Working within the community has had a huge influence on my professional practice as an artist and a facilitator. I am always looking for new opportunities to work with groups who would benefit form participatory arts practice.

We set an aim to create open access workshops for people to explore themes of Self Portraiture in a supportive and friendly environment. Visual artists were encouraged to create a drawn or painted self portrait, performance artists created their 'inner/outer characters' through photography and all got to participate in exhibiting work in a gallery space. The social impact included; building of confidence, creative skills and a sense of involvement in the community.

Photography workshop: Drawing with Light
I was asked to create a media based workshop for year 9 students in local secondary schools. Working with colleagues on my PGCE course, we explored 'drawing with light'- a fun way to learn about long exposure using DSLR cameras.

I have met many inspirational people through my work within communities and love to see how their participation, especially in creative group work, can help them develop their confidence, their interpersonal life skills and form new connections with individuals and communities. The positive change created in individuals is what drives me to create tailored workshops and courses that meet the varying needs of participants.
